Reaction of electrons trapped in cryogenic matrices with benzophenone

The benzophenone radical anion 2 was generated by reaction of electrons with 1 in argon and water matrices at cryogenic temperatures. Sodium as source the co-deposited or low-density amorphous (LDA) ice matrices. In solid argon, sodium atoms, 1, small quantities were observed after deposition. Visible light irradiation these resulted an electron transfer from to under formation 2. If LDA used matrix, hydrated co-deposition sodium. react without photochemical activation, resulting photoexcitation photoionization back-formation 1.

We formulate the theory of the two-stream instability (e-cloud instability) with electrons trapped in quadrupole magnets. We show that a linear instability theory can be sensibly formulated and analyzed.
